Amazing

This definitely took me back to my youth. I loved this game more than anything else that I played on SNES. I know that I beat it at least 4 or 5 times in a span of like three years.

Although its been years since I last played this game, if your rendition can take me back so vividly to playing this game, then it certainly has a certain air to it. There's not a single thing that I can think of to improve on, to be honest with you.

Amazing work.

10/10 - 5/5

P.S.
This is also the first song from Newgrounds I've downloaded.

saintedix responds:

Thanks a lot iband! Yeah, I beat the snot out of this game as well. Tristam was my favorite because of the ninja stars he had ;)

Awesome

Just awesome. I don't have a whole lot to add.

Good work.

Not bad at all

I have to say that, as a whole, it was a pretty decent bit of work.

There were a few times that it sounded as though you got out of time between the two tracks, but that could have been the reverb and phaser effects playing tricks on my ears. Either way, it did give a bit of that impression.

I wasn't a HUGE fan of the tone that you used, specifically on the rhythm guitar. It may just be on my personal preference, but I think that the rhythm guitar could have been improved by being acoustic. Perhaps even playing the part twice, once on electric and then on acoustic, and layering them appropriately.

It was good overall, and I think any kinks that it may have could be in the editing department, because you sound like a very solid player. Editing is a whole different story and can be the most annoying thing in music.

Keep up the good work, man.

thanks a lot, i appreciate the feed back

Not a bad start...

For this being your first piece, it came out quite well. The biggest issue that I can see in this work is that the instruments don't sound all that real, but I've commented on a few people's work with this same issue. It's very hard to find worthwhile digital instruments. So no worries on that.

There were a few places where this work just didn't seem to flow with itself, in my opinion. It just seemed that some of the instruments seemed to be fighting each other a bit more than they were flowing.

As well, don't be afraid to add a lot more instruments into the work, as I have to say that to a degree it sounded rather shallow at times. Experiment a bit with reverb more, that can usually bring a bit more life into a instrumental.

The last thing I have to mention is at around :46 there was a glitch in the audio. This could have just been from a bit of corruption, but it distracts from the piece a little bit.

Otherwise, good work man.

JonFawkes responds:

Thank you very much for the critique. I'll definitely keep this in mind for future compositions if I do decide to make more.

Creepy

Aside from the fact that it creeped me out a little bit, it was quite good.

All of the instrumentation flowed, in the best sense the word can be used in this case, rather well. Enjoyed the broad range you went through in this song.

I have to say I could imagine this in something of a Tim Burton-esque movie.

Good work.

4/5

Bosa responds:

Well, I had me some Edward Scissorhands in mind while I was cooking this particular dish. I'm sure you know what my secret ingredient was.

Intense

When I listen to this, I get the sense of a battle. It's not hard to imagine this being the battle music for an RPG, especially against a major foe.

I liked the way you mixed this. That bit of ambiance that you gave it made it sound like it was recorded using a real orchestra. It sounds almost distance, but in a good way. I thought the mix as a whole worked well, nothing seemed out of place or too overbearing.

Cimba responds:

Thanks for the review and the good score :)

Great Composition

This was very well composed. My only real gripe with the piece is how synthetic some of the instruments sound. I'm not going to hold that against you, since most of the Zelda games don't have a much better sound, not to mention its hard to find any worthwhile digital instruments anyway.

Otherwise, wonderful work.

jmerk800 responds:

Yeah I know what you mean, it really is hard to find truely real sounding digital instruments. but thank you for the positive feed back I really do appreciate it. Thanks.

Took me back

Definitely took me back to a lot of the games I used to play on the original GameBoy. Pokemon, Megaman, Castlevania, etc.

Granted, I'm not sure how well this song would have worked in any of those games, I still liked it, ha ha. I definitely has a good deal of nostalgia in it, at least for me anyway. There isn't very much I can say on how to improve the song. I think it's perfectly fine as is, but I can't wait to hear the finished product.

Good work, I'm looking forward to an update.

Enjoyed it

I really enjoyed this piece. It was simple, emotional, and just overall a good piece of composition.

I don't really enjoy leaving short reviews, but I think you accomplished something great here. I don't really have much to critique or add.

Good job, man.

shadow6nothing9 responds:

Yes I was aiming for simple. Glad you liked it. I just got to work on a proper intro/ending and polish it up a bit.

Thanks for the Review. People like you are awesome.
